Our specialty

Fascial Counterstrain

FCS is a highly specialized, neurological way of interpreting the body's dysfunction. Most manual therapy reads pain mechanically: which joint is stiff, which muscle is tight. FCS utilizes the nervous system instead. That wider lens catches problems a mechanical exam misses and brings them to light, so they can finally be treated.

Using FCS, we can identify where there is trapped inflammation in your body's tissue. When that occurs, the inflammation can cause pain, muscle guarding reflexes, and a wide range of symptoms: chronic pain, nerve pain and sciatica, headaches and migraines, neck and back pain, TMJ and jaw pain, joint stiffness, swelling and lymphatic congestion, digestive problems, dizziness and vertigo, and fatigue. Because the inflammation can sit in fascial layers across every system of the body, symptoms often appear far from the source.

Your treatment looks like your therapist gently slackening or decompressing the involved tissue so the body can release what is trapped. Muscle guarding tension, pain, muscle dysfunction, and trigger points let go. Many patients report long-lasting relief after a few sessions. It is one of the most powerful tools we have to reduce pain and restore function, and it is the reason people who have tried everything else come to Renew.

Hands-on, not hands-off

Manual therapy is the core of everything we do.

Manual therapy engages dysfunctional tissue in a specific way to address pain and movement deficits. Without it, exercise alone has minimal effect. Every plan at Renew is built around it.

Fascial Counterstrain

Gentle release of trapped inflammation across the body's fascial layers. Our specialty, described above.

Joint mobilization

Restoring movement in stiff joints, from the jaw to the spine to the extremities, with pressure applied in the direction the joint is stuck.

Soft tissue mobilization

Treating dysfunction in muscle, tendon, ligament, and fascia by hand or with an instrument, including cross-fiber friction, trigger point release, and structural integration.

Dry needling

Fine needles placed into tight, painful tissue to release trigger points and reset muscle tone. Performed by our certified clinicians.

High velocity, low amplitude

A quick, precise thrust at the joint's restrictive barrier to restore motion fast. Chiropractors call it an adjustment. It is safe and pain-free.

Muscle energy techniques

Using your own muscles to reposition joints in the low back and pelvis that have become stuck and painful.

Before any of this begins, we complete a full assessment of your body mechanics, gait, and movement, then choose the techniques that fit you. A physician's order is never necessary to begin.

What we treat

Chronic pain, hard-to-diagnose conditions, inflammation, autoimmune conditions, athletes, and auto accident recovery.

Every service below uses the same one-on-one, hands-on model. If you don't see your situation here, call us. We have probably treated it.

Most common

Chronic pain treatment

Patients who suffer from chronic pain often find little relief working with traditional medical doctors and physical therapists. If that has been your experience, reach out to us. We specialize in helping patients like you, and in finding the source when nothing has shown up on a scan.

Most common

Joint & orthopedic treatment

Pick a joint: neck, back, shoulder, hip, knee, foot, or ankle. We use manual therapy and other effective techniques to reduce pain and address the underlying dysfunction causing your pain or mobility issues. Individualized home programs reduce your risk of re-injury.

Most common

Post-operative rehabilitation

There is no such thing as a successful surgery without successful therapy afterward. Without PT, patients often develop dysfunctional movement patterns, persistent weakness, or stiffness after surgery. We also help when a surgery did not deliver the relief you were promised.

Spinal mobilization

When you have back pain, a chiropractor might be your first thought, but physical therapy may be a better option. We are trained in spinal mobilization and take a whole-body approach to finding and treating the cause of back pain, which is how our patients find lasting relief.

Strength & balance for older adults

Injuries from a fall can end independent living. We use an evidence-based approach to measure your fall risk and build a personalized program. We have helped many seniors improve mobility and prevent falls so they can live happily, healthily, and independently for as long as possible.

Vestibular rehab & balance training

Dizziness, vertigo, and unsteadiness respond well to targeted, hands-on treatment. We identify what is driving the problem and retrain your balance system so you can move through your day with confidence.

Injury prevention

Worried about runner's knee or a torn rotator cuff? Many injuries come from strength imbalances and improper movement. We evaluate your movement patterns and develop individualized exercise programs to reduce your risk.

Auto accident rehab

Whiplash or another auto-accident injury? We can help with no out-of-pocket cost to you. Working with a Renew doctor, you can get the most out of your personal injury protection (PIP) benefits, find relief from pain, and recover faster than with other forms of treatment.

Sports rehabilitation

After an injury, athletes want back into their sport as fast as possible. We know scholarships, jobs, and personal goals are riding on it. We combine manual therapy and targeted exercise to reduce pain, restore function, and get you back to peak performance safely.

Functional Athlete Assessment© & programming

For high-intensity functional training (HIFT) athletes who want to maximize potential without risking injury. We developed the Functional Athlete Assessment© to identify risky movements and build a guide to reaching your fitness goals safely.

Movement mechanics education & training

Perform an exercise incorrectly and you can miss out on up to 25% of the benefit. We evaluate you during your workout, then teach you the mechanics so you get the most out of every session.

Integrative

Whole-body & inflammatory conditions

Digestive issues, autoimmune conditions, fibromyalgia, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Dysautonomia, migraines, TMJ, and nerve pain. Because Fascial Counterstrain works across every system of the body, we can often help where standard physical therapy has no answer.

Your first session

Here is exactly what happens when you come in.

  1. We listen. Really listen.

Your whole story, not just the body part that hurts. Where it started, what you have tried, what you have been told.

  2. A hands-on evaluation

We find where your pain is actually coming from, which is often not where it hurts.

  3. Treatment starts on day one

You do not wait for a second visit to feel something change. We treat what we find, right away.

  4. A clear plan you understand

What is going on, how many visits we expect, and what you can do at home.

Reduced pain on your first session, or it's free.
